Solo Energy – Distributed Energy Storage – Breakfast Briefing – Wednesday 27th Sept 2017

Energy Cork is delighted to announce that our next Breakfast Briefing will take place on WEDNESDAY 27th September 2017 , from 0700 – 0830 at the Clayton Hotel, Lapp’s Quay, Cork.

This Briefing will hear about an innovative distributed energy storage system recently installed at Cork City Council’s Ballyvolane Fire Station. Cork-based Solo Energy, in collaboration with ESB Networks, is rolling out a network of distributed energy storage systems at a number of private and public buildings as part of an SEAI-funded R&D project called ‘eStore’. The operation of such a network will be the first of its kind for the power system in Ireland.

Cork City Council installed 42 solar PV panels on the roof of Ballyvolane Fire Station in 2016. The system currently offsets approximately 17% of the buildings electricity consumption and eliminates 4500 kg of CO2 from the atmosphere every year. The eStore project aims to improve these figures substantially through increasing solar PV self-consumption within the building whilst also trialling the provision of grid services to ESB Networks. More information on the project is available HERE

The speaker at the Breakfast Briefing will be Liam Breathnach of Solo Energy

Liam is Chief Technology Officer with Solo Energy. He is an expert in the modelling and analysis of power systems with over ten years of prior experience working in the power system studies consultancy field at ESB International. He has undertaken numerous transmission and distribution projects both in Ireland and internationally. He is a chartered engineer and holds a BEng in Electrical Engineering from University College Cork and an MSc in Applied Computing for Technologists from Dublin Institute of Technology.

The event is open to both members and non-members of Energy Cork and is a free event. However, places are limited – so in order to ensure that you are not disappointed, please confirm your attendance to office@energycork.ie  by 12 noon on Tuesday 26th September.
